Daily Bread: Medieval and Italian

We need to start talking about food.  After all, The Leopard IS a tavern that serves food.  What kind of food?

Let's start with a biscotti recipe,  Anyone out there know how old biscotti is?  Next week's recipe will be 12th century.  Check out the picture,  AND the recipe!

GINGERBREAD BISCOTTI

1 C BUTTER
2 C BROWN SUGAR
4 LARGE EGGS
4 C FLOUR
2 t BAKING POWDER
2 t CINNAMON
2 t GINGER (GROUND)
1 t CLOVES
½ t SALT
2 C SLIVERED ALMONDS
A C CHOPPED CRYSTALLIZED GINGER

A SPLASH OF FIORI DI SICILIA

PREHEAT OVEN TO 360 – BAKE FOR 20-25 MIN.  COOL 5 MIN.  LOWER OVEN TO 325.

CUT BISCOTTI DIAGONALLY.  PUT ON COOKIE SHEET WITH PARCHMENT PAPER.

BAKE AT 325 7-10 MIN. OR UNTIL RELATIVELY FIRM.  DO NOT OVER BAKE.

I'm very  liberal with my spices and I'm not a precise measure - I bake with abandon!!!
